Literacy & Maths curriculum

At BHJS we strive to create simulating and engaging lessons through careful and adpative planning in order to help our children progress as much as possible, whilst enjoying their learning. For our literacy and maths planning, we use the National Literacy and Maths strategies as a basis to ensure breadth of coverage.

In the literacy framework, each year group has multiple units to cover which has an overarching theme. This theme is then split down into phases which are designed to engage and engross the learner within their learning.

In the maths framework, each year group has multiple blocks to cover. Within each block, there are numerous mathematical concepts which could be studied. The teaching staff then choose some of these concepts to cover within the 2 to 3 week unit. Throughout the units, all concepts are regularly repeated and therefore all of the concepts will have been taught numerous times during the year.
